Tour Overview

Southern Morocco, at the perfect pace

The journey from Marrakech to the Sahara Desert covers incredible distances and wildly shifting landscapes. While many travelers rush the route in three days, our 4-day itinerary adds a crucial extra night, turning a heavy driving schedule into a relaxed, immersive road trip.

Why this tour is unique

By adding a fourth day, we completely eliminate the exhausting 9-hour return drive from the desert. Instead, we break up the journey, giving you more time to hike through the Todra Gorge, explore the Valley of Roses, and discover the cinematic history of Ouarzazate. You will arrive in the Sahara feeling fresh, ready to ride a camel into the sunset and sleep under the stars.

FAQ

Common questions

How does this differ from the 3-day tour?

The 3-day tour is fantastic but requires a 9-hour drive on the final day from the desert straight back to Marrakech. This 4-day tour breaks that long drive into two halves by adding a relaxing overnight stay in Ouarzazate on Day 3.

What happens to my luggage during the camel ride?

Your main luggage stays securely locked in the vehicle with your driver. You will only need to pack a small overnight backpack with your essentials for your night in the desert camp.

Are there toilets and showers in the desert camp?

If you book the Superior or Luxury packages, your private tent will have a fully functioning western toilet and hot shower inside. Comfort packages utilize clean, shared facilities.

Good to Know

Practical details

What to pack

The desert and mountains have wild temperature swings. Bring comfortable layers, a warm fleece for the evening, a scarf for wind and sand, and sturdy walking shoes for the gorges.

Currency & payments

Bring enough Moroccan Dirhams (MAD) in cash to cover your lunches, drinks, and tips, as rural restaurants and cafes on the road often do not accept credit cards.

Tipping

While not mandatory, it is highly customary to tip your driver at the end of the trip if you felt they kept you safe and provided a great experience.

Connectivity

You will have WiFi in your Dades Valley and Ouarzazate hotels, but expect very limited to zero cellular service while in the Merzouga desert camp.
